Compare dental prices

Put any two places side by side for the same treatment, using the same observed data as the rest of the site. Sample sizes are shown so you can see how much weight each figure carries.

The picker carries the 220 best-sampled cities. 587 further cities are published but left out here to keep this page light — each still has its own page via the state index, and all of them are in the dataset.

Observed dataObserved negotiated rates. Every figure here is a real negotiated amount taken from payer files published under the federal Transparency in Coverage rule. These are what a dental plan pays a contracted practice - not a cash price.
Estimated self-payEstimated self-pay range, not an observation. We do not have observed cash prices, and we will not present a modelled number as though we did. This range is the upper half of the same observed negotiated distribution, shown because an uninsured patient generally pays at or above the highest negotiated tier. Treat it as a budgeting aid and ask any practice for a written quote.

How to read this

The negotiated range is the middle half of the market in that place — the 25th to 75th percentile of what plans actually pay. A place with a small sample is not necessarily cheaper or dearer than one with a large sample; it is simply measured less precisely, which is why n is shown beside every figure.

Where a treatment is missing for a place, too few practices there met our publication threshold. We leave the cell empty rather than estimating it. See the methodology.
