Extractions & oral surgery cost: prices for every procedure
Extraction pricing splits sharply between a simple extraction, where the tooth is removed whole, and a surgical one requiring bone removal or sectioning. Wisdom teeth are priced by how deeply impacted they are, which is assessed from an X-ray before any quote is meaningful.
Observed dataObserved negotiated rates. Every figure here is a real negotiated amount taken from payer files published under the federal Transparency in Coverage rule. These are what a dental plan pays a contracted practice - not a cash price.
Estimated self-payEstimated self-pay range, not an observation. We do not have observed cash prices, and we will not present a modelled number as though we did. This range is the upper half of the same observed negotiated distribution, shown because an uninsured patient generally pays at or above the highest negotiated tier. Treat it as a budgeting aid and ask any practice for a written quote.

Ranked by median price
Medians only. The table below gives the full observed range and sample size for each.
Observed prices in full
| Treatment | Negotiated range Observed | Median | Spread | Practices (n) | Est. self-pay Estimated |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fully-impacted wisdom tooth removal | $286 – $374 | $327 | 25,234 | $327 – $424 | |
| Partly-impacted wisdom tooth removal | $242 – $323 | $281 | 25,595 | $281 – $364 | |
| Surgical tooth extraction | $158 – $221 | $190 | 25,389 | $190 – $252 | |
| Simple tooth extraction | $90 – $130 | $110 | 25,410 | $110 – $149 |
What to watch forSedation is almost always billed separately and can rival the extraction fee itself. If several teeth are being removed in one visit, ask whether the per-tooth fee changes.
