Gum disease treatment cost: prices for every procedure
Gum disease treatment is quoted per quadrant, which is the single biggest source of confusion on a treatment plan. Four quadrants means four times the per-quadrant fee, and a plan that looks like a few hundred dollars can be four times that once the whole mouth is treated.
Observed dataObserved negotiated rates. Every figure here is a real negotiated amount taken from payer files published under the federal Transparency in Coverage rule. These are what a dental plan pays a contracted practice - not a cash price.
Estimated self-payEstimated self-pay range, not an observation. We do not have observed cash prices, and we will not present a modelled number as though we did. This range is the upper half of the same observed negotiated distribution, shown because an uninsured patient generally pays at or above the highest negotiated tier. Treat it as a budgeting aid and ask any practice for a written quote.

Ranked by median price
Medians only. The table below gives the full observed range and sample size for each.
Observed prices in full
| Treatment | Negotiated range Observed | Median | Spread | Practices (n) | Est. self-pay Estimated |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gum surgery (per quadrant) | $684 – $908 | $780 | 25,581 | $780 – $1,042 | |
| Deep cleaning, four or more teeth per quadrant | $144 – $199 | $173 | 25,278 | $173 – $224 | |
| Deep cleaning, one to three teeth per quadrant | $88 – $131 | $108 | 25,788 | $108 – $154 | |
| Ongoing gum maintenance cleaning | $82 – $111 | $96 | 25,251 | $96 – $126 |
What to watch forCheck whether your quote is per quadrant or for the full mouth, and how many quadrants are planned. Ongoing maintenance cleanings afterwards are billed under a different code than a standard cleaning and are often covered at a lower percentage.
